Commodities - oil softens on close

Prices for crude oil reached records heights in both London and New York Monday, but softened later in the session to close below Friday's level.
In London, the August contract for Brent crude opened the session at USD 141.29/barrel, but later rose to an all-time high of USD 143.91/bbl. The contract later lost value to close the session at USD 139.83/bbl which was 48 cents lower than the previous.
